Landfill Soil Veneer Stabilisation
In modern engineered landfill construction, the lining system is crucial to environmental security. But linings on slopes, even those formed at shallow gradients, are vulnerable to excessive tensile strain and rupture due to sliding of the overlying soil cover or drainage layer. This is a particular problem for landfill lining systems due to the very low interface friction angles of the components.
How Tensar geogrids can help
The addition of a layer of Tensar uniaxial geogrid placed over the lining system and anchored at the top of the slope can support the weight of the soil veneer or leachate drainage material on sloping bases. This avoids the liner being subjected to damaging tensile strains. With the extra stability, it’s also possible to construct steeper side slopes and gain additional capacity.
