Landfill Capacity Expansion
With a shortage of suitable space with Planning Approval for landfill, there’s more demand than ever for additional waste to be placed over existing sites. Having originated in the US in the late 1980s, this practice is now sometimes known as ‘piggy-backing’, and needs a base containment lining system to be placed over the existing landfill. However, this will need structural support to control deformation caused by decomposition settlements in the underlying waste – the development with time of voids created by the collapse of large hollow objects such as rusting refrigerators needs to be considered.
What Tensar geogrids can do
Tensar’s uniaxial geogrids can reinforce the new lining system and can be designed to safely span the anticipated voids without imposing excess tensile strain and therefore damage of the liner.
